Representatives of the Ombudsman Office were on a study trip to Spain

A study trip of representatives of the relevant state institutions of Azerbaijan was organized to Spain within the framework of the joint action «Increasing awareness of the Istanbul Convention and other gender equality standards in Azerbaijan»under the European Union and Council of Europe’s programme Partnership for Good Govermance II (PGG).The aim of the trip was to familiarize with the experience of Spain with regard to preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.

Representatives of the Office of the Commissionerfor Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ayten Tarverdiyeva and Tahira Rahimova also participated in the study trip. As a part of the trip, the participants had meetings at the Ministry of Equality, the State Observatory on Domestic and Gender-based Violence, the specialized court on gender-based violence, the Family and Women’s Center under the Ministry of the Interior, the Directorate General for Coordination and Research, the State Secretariat for Security, as well as the «Cometa» management and «016 call center».

During the meetings, authorized representatives of those institutions provided extensive information on the experience of Spain with regard to preventing and combating gender-based violence, as well as the activities of specialized courts, civil society organizations and call centers. 

During the interactive discussions, the members of the delegation spoke about the comprehensive measures implemented to prevent violence against women and domestic violence in Azerbaijan, including the experience of the Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan in this area.
